The article that I have chosen to analyze is Walt Disney: The Triumph of the American Imagination. Written by Neal Gabler, of the New York: Knorpf, 2006
This article talks about one of the most successful men American business. The writer attempts to talk about the business of movie production than write about the art of animation. He quotes out the Walt`s biography from one of Walt`s employees `` Walt is not an artist as much as he is as great producer. `` (476). This is the way the article addresses one of the most successful companies in Hollywood ever. The article or writer wants to address the way that Walt was able to keep his dream together and how he was able to finance it. According to the article one would have never known that Walt`s world might not have been if it wasn’t for Walt’s also creative genius ways to help find the capital to start it and also keep it going. It`s a true Disney ending when it came down to all the pieces falling into place that allowed Disney to keep from bankruptcy, and allow it to grow into the most durable brand of entertainment.
The article goes on to talk about how Walt used all the dreams and myths he had growing up as a child of Missouri, and how he turned them in to the utopia of Disney`s magic kingdom. He writes about how Walt was fixated upon total control over the world of imagination. Walt is portrayed as a sometimes cruel and impatient man, that had to have total control over his dream, but it soon became an ugly battle once unionization started attacking his parks. The more money that Walt made, the more intense he became. He became a man totally focused upon business and one would never know it from the great entertainment he provided. He talks about how lonely of man Walt must have been, as he grew more intense on his business maters and Walt once stated that `` He loved Mickey Mouse more than any women he`d have ever known`` (550).

One would be hard to find anyone that hasn’t been touched by the magic of Walt. From the baby boomers to the present day spoiled kids, we all enjoy the magic of Walter Disney`s dreams.

BAD VERSIONS OF OUR NATIONAL ANTHEM
How many times have we watched a sports event and our national anthem become the main headlines in the news over the sporting event itself? In another major sporting event, the Super Bowl, another major singing artist made the headlines due to their lack of knowing the words to the national anthem. You will think that the NFL would test these singers knowledge of the anthem, since it is our national anthem. With all the issues that have risen over the years, with the Michael Jackson taking minutes to start his routine, to his sister wardrobe issues. The NFL has had issues with singers. So why don’t they have the at least rehearse. Maybe Christina Aguilera earned herself some unwanted attention Sunday night and Monday after flubbing some lines and omitting others in her rendition of the National Anthem prior to Super Bowl XLV, or maybe this is just a way for these so-called stars to get more publicity. Good or bad, it was her name that was all over the internet on Sunday night and all day Monday, and not the Green Bay Packers.
The NFL isn’t the only league that has issues with offering their version of the Anthem. Major league baseball has the worst version of all. Who can ever forget Roseanne Barr`s screaming of Anthem in 1990, at a Reds and Padres game. She was booed and she than spit at the response. This version remains as the most pitiful of all attempts by anyone to sing our Anthem.
The NBA decided that it didn’t want to be left of this list of poor attempts, so they hired Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis to sing the Anthem in 1993. He stopped in the middle; after he realized how bad he was and promised the crowd that his second attempt would be better. He failed twice. He should have just finished and walked off the first time. He was booed, and this is his only memory that we as sports fans will remember of him, and not his gold medals. Not even NASCAR or the NHL has been able to escape this list.
Maybe the pro sports world should use our National Anthem as a way for people that want to get on American idle; maybe this should be a contest. It shouldn’t get any worse than they have presented.

THE MOST DISLIKED PEOPLE IN SPORTS LIST

Sports news media will take a survey of 1000 sports fans and ask them to tell us about their attitudes towards certain sports figures, such as coaches, owners, and players. They are ask to respond with an answer of ``dislike somewhat,’’ ``dislike,’’ or ``dislike a lot.’’ I do not know if these sports stars pay attention to these polls, but the sports world really does. Let us look at a few of these not so popular stars. At one, point these names where on another list, the most popular stars.
Image plays a huge roll in these polls, and having a brush with the law will destroy a so-called stars image and popularity kick. Let us look at Michael Vick, even though he had a great year on the field, he still ranked 2nd just behind Al Davis, the Oakland raiders owner. Michael Vick`s image will need a lot more than what he showed on the field, with comments such as he was looking to get a puppy for his son, that just didn’t set well with animal right activist. If Michael expects to ever rise, again from the hole he put himself in, he needs to write out his speeches before he goes in front of a camera.
Mark McGwire is another athlete that needs to consider what he does before he expects the public to accept him back. At one the highlight of every sports show, with his towering home runs and every little boy’s hero, Mark let them all down with his steroids use and constant lying to the people that once loved him so much. He did move down a few points from number 6 to the 8th disliked sports star.
At one time, this man could do no wrong, a star around the world and a figure that changed a sport. Tiger Woods, who would have ever thought that the words dislike and Tiger Woods’ would be in the same sentence. Since that fateful Thanksgiving eve, Tiger`s world and popular has fallen. At one time, he was on the list as the most popular and loved sports figure in the world, source Sports Illustrated, Fall from Grace. In the beginning the 2010 year Tiger was about be listed as the first billionaire sports star, but after his divorce and a split of his assets down the middle and a very lackluster performance when he did return to the gold course, he never put up a single win in 2010. Tiger jumped from a popular list to the 4th man on the disliked list. His poor news conferences on dealing with his infidelity didn’t help his image much, and neither did admitting that he had a sexual problem. I ask you, who doesn’t want sex a lot. In addition, that is a problem. Maybe if he would have came out and said he had been mistreated as a child and that cause him to have the issues he had might had helped, but he told the truth and thought the sports world would forgive him. Finding himself only 4th on this list, might  be considered his only win for 2010.
This kind of poll goes to show that the average sports fan does care about what these super stars
do off the field. Nonetheless, improved performance on the field can help, let’s just see what happens this year in golf, and what Michael Vick accomplishes next season.

THERE IS AN APP FOR EVERYTHING
We can say that there is truly an app for everything. For those that do not have the latest cell phone, I-pad, or the latest gadget that will help you read or be part of the social networking group, an app is short for application. An app is something that you add to your phone to increase the enjoyment out of it. Now there are over 300,000 apps available to a numerous type of gadgets. Such as the I-phone, android, blackberry, and the I-pad. There are systems that offer just apps, such as Apple and Windows by Microsoft. While most apps are for fun and games, there are more and more apps being written to start filling our needs. Such as navigational apps, weather alert apps, and a new one, for that thrifty shopper an app where you can actually scan a item you are shopping for and it will compare prices for you and let you know what the price is at all the competitive stores in your area. Yes, a person can be at wal-mart and if they have down loaded the latest app for price comparison, they can just scan the item. The wal-mart manager might not like that but it is the new era of shopping. When more people realize how much the new shopping apps can save — and I’m not talking about a buck or two — using a smart phone will be as important as using a shopping cart.
``Apps such as RedLaser (on iPhone), TheFind (on iPhone and Android) and Google (on iPhone) and Google Shopper (on Android), will be indispensable. On the iPhone, TheFind, which is new, was slightly better than its competitors, while on Android, Google Shopper was best.``
They are all worth downloading, and since they are all free, it makes sense to download them all, just in case one does not scan an item perfectly.
They work in roughly the same way. While you are in the store, open the app and a camera like screen appears, with a highlighted frame. Scan a product bar code within that frame and, if the lighting is good and you can get an Internet connection inside the store, the app typically recognizes it. Purchases that are more expensive are in this technology’s sweet spot, since a two-minute smart phone airtime cost could save you $20, if not $200...
Keep in mind: If can expect to find tons of information about an item online — like electronics, books, or appliances — you can expect good results from the apps.
Just a few months ago, a game called crazy bird was the number one free app that was being downloaded, but just like all technology, someone is always looking to be the next number one. An eighth grader in Utah wrote the next great thing. Bubble ball, a puzzle game. A person tries to maneuver a bubble though a maze without busting it. This boy is already working on his next app. We will probably hear about him again, the next social network or the next computer software.
We no longer have to check our TV stations, travel from shop to shop or even look at a map, all that information is know just a smart phone away.

Politics and pop culture, who knew that the two would ever become one, we all can remember when being a politician didn’t mean that you had to be a popular icon. Nevertheless, since the 2008 election Barrack and Sarah have become just that, pop icons. Although Barrack Obama wasn’t the first president to show that he is involved with the in crowd, Bill Clinton showed interest in the pop culture theme, realizing that there where many untouched voters he could reach out to. Barrack just followed in those foots steps he laid down. While the democratic side of politics had figured a way to go after millions of voters, the republicans found someone that could be in touch with the pop culture side of politics. When most presidents and politicians usually waited to write books until they had retired, these two have books coming out from everywhere, America by Heart, (Sarah Palin) 2010. Along with books, Sarah also came out with her own TV reality series, Palin`s Alaska. Politicians seem to be trying to become movie stars and less of a state diplomat. Who knows which side will have the first political figure to have a hit song.

Icon Analysis Assignment 2-2

The three icons I am choosing are McDonalds, UK Basketball, and Pete Rose.
McDonalds, the restaurant icon that was set the standard thru out the world of what a fast food restaurant must achieve. We cannot say that McDonalds is an icon for its food, but we can say it is an icon for the way that Ray Kroc changed the way the fast food industry would serve the people. McDonald’s do’s one thing, it wants to serve people. McDonalds has never set out to claim that it has the best tasting fast food, but it do`s lay claim to having the best fast food service. Even though McDonalds was not the first franchise restaurant, they rewrote the book on how all franchisees now operate. Almost ever, franchise to this day, now follows the way that McDonald has set-up the way it does business. It`s this reason alone that I would choose McDonalds. If you ever get a chance, try just standing back and watching a McDonald’s crew at work when they are busy, they have it down to a science the way to prepare those frozen patties.
Somewhere in the state of Kentucky, there are all kinds of little boys out in the field, the courtyard and inside a gym if they can get in; in their hands is a basketball, not just a round ball that bounces, but a future, a way of life in the state of Kentucky. While only few will ever make it, almost all Kentucky boys always dream of wearing the blue. It would be impossible to say that you live or have lived in Kentucky and never watched or heard a UK basketball game. While most people could never tell you who was the governor thru-out the 60`s in Kentucky, they should can tell you who Adolph Rupp was. Kentucky basketball isn’t just a sport in this state; it is a way of life. Businesses of all kinds from restaurants and clothing shops relay on the success of the team, it’s not just Kentuckians team, Kentucky basketball is loved and watched all over the United States. While Kentucky has the winningest basketball program in the history of college basketball, the present day only counts to those true fans. A coach that comes to UK must win now or find himself unemployed quickly. It is a fact that in Kentucky, if you play basketball for the wildcats, you are a God.

Pete Rose, if you where a boy growing up in the 60`s and 70`s and played baseball, you either hated the name or you loved what he could do. No player in the history of baseball took his job as serious as Rose did. Though he might be known as the man that put himself above the sport that made him a household name, no one can ever take way what he did ever day on the job. I chose Pete as one of my icons, because I was one of those boys that would never miss a game that Rose played, I was one that was on the edge of my sit, when he was up or on base. You never knew what was coming next, but you knew it wasn’t going to be boring. Rose took his job serious and for that reason alone, is why he was so successful. He never took a day off, nor did he just walk to first. He ran everything out, and he played as if it was the bottom of the ninth with two outs in every game, from preseason to the World Series. Rose is an icon because of his work ethic and not his morals. It`s his work ethic I have loved and will always try to mimic.
