THE MOST DISLIKED PEOPLE IN SPORTS LIST
Sports news media will take a survey of 1000 sports fans and ask them to tell us about their attitudes towards certain sports figures, such as coaches, owners, and players. They are ask to respond with an answer of ``dislike somewhat,’’ ``dislike,’’ or ``dislike a lot.’’ I do not know if these sports stars pay attention to these polls, but the sports world really does. Let us look at a few of these not so popular stars. At one, point these names where on another list, the most popular stars.
Image plays a huge roll in these polls, and having a brush with the law will destroy a so-called stars image and popularity kick. Let us look at Michael Vick, even though he had a great year on the field, he still ranked 2nd just behind Al Davis, the Oakland raiders owner. Michael Vick`s image will need a lot more than what he showed on the field, with comments such as he was looking to get a puppy for his son, that just didn’t set well with animal right activist. If Michael expects to ever rise, again from the hole he put himself in, he needs to write out his speeches before he goes in front of a camera.
Mark McGwire is another athlete that needs to consider what he does before he expects the public to accept him back. At one the highlight of every sports show, with his towering home runs and every little boy’s hero, Mark let them all down with his steroids use and constant lying to the people that once loved him so much. He did move down a few points from number 6 to the 8th disliked sports star.
At one time, this man could do no wrong, a star around the world and a figure that changed a sport. Tiger Woods, who would have ever thought that the words dislike and Tiger Woods’ would be in the same sentence. Since that fateful Thanksgiving eve, Tiger`s world and popular has fallen. At one time, he was on the list as the most popular and loved sports figure in the world, source Sports Illustrated, Fall from Grace. In the beginning the 2010 year Tiger was about be listed as the first billionaire sports star, but after his divorce and a split of his assets down the middle and a very lackluster performance when he did return to the gold course, he never put up a single win in 2010. Tiger jumped from a popular list to the 4th man on the disliked list. His poor news conferences on dealing with his infidelity didn’t help his image much, and neither did admitting that he had a sexual problem. I ask you, who doesn’t want sex a lot. In addition, that is a problem. Maybe if he would have came out and said he had been mistreated as a child and that cause him to have the issues he had might had helped, but he told the truth and thought the sports world would forgive him. Finding himself only 4th on this list, might be considered his only win for 2010.
This kind of poll goes to show that the average sports fan does care about what these super stars
do off the field. Nonetheless, improved performance on the field can help, let’s just see what happens this year in golf, and what Michael Vick accomplishes next season.
